Musical Projects

Apart from making films, I make music in 2 bands here in the SF Bay Area.

The ElectroSonic Chamber

“Experience the psychedelic sounds of The ElectroSonic Chamber, a four-piece band conceived and born in the Bay Area. Comprised of a Filipino and Bay Area natives, they are a splash of good old California sunshine sprinkled with Trans-Pacific flair. Loud enough to feel some good vibrations, a splendid time is guaranteed for all!”

I play drums for this band with fellow filmmaker Wilfred Galila on vocals / guitar. We just released the band’s first EP for FREE on May 17th 2011 titled “ESC“. The songs on the EP were written mostly in the first half of 2010, recorded in November, and mixed in April 2011. It is a collection of music conceptually assembled and designed to generate an experience. Listen / Download the free EP below:

The Family of Man

A foggy blend of aural vistas, earthy rhythms, and enchanting lullabies from the northern woods that lie near the cusp between land and sea over yonder, The Family of Man came to be, out of nowhere, like a sudden whisper of a breeze or a mushroom sprouting from the ground. A heady mix of folk, blues, and rock blended with a touch of everything in between, their music can be best described as whimsical, poignant, visceral, magical, somber, joyful, and downright real.

It began as a camping trip in the Mendocino woods in July 1, 2010 bringing together their friendship, their hearts, some musical instruments, and a lot of good old revelry. What started out as fun jam sessions in a shipping container in the middle of a forest resulted in spontaneous and less spontaneous songs that became the first album called “Inside the Box” which was released September 2010. Instantaneously evolving into a side project of Wilfred Galila and Dominic Mercurio, who previously formed the psychedelic rock band ElectroSonic Chamber, The Family of Man became their earthy and more subdued outlet of musical expression with Aliyah Cline as the third member.

Aptly named for the shared vision of the universality of music and the human experience, it was quite apparent, after the release of their second album in August 2011, “Heads in the Sky“, that The Family of Man is a creative vehicle that transcends race, gender, and, class in the sharing of experiences through music.

Their latest album is their most ambitious yet. filled with an expansive list of instruments and featuring songs written by all three members, “The Way” finds The Family of Man at their most collaborative and full.
